Our Story

WillowTree 37 Women's Support Centre began as a vision to create a safe space where vulnerable women found support. Our location at 37 Guy Street, Warwick has been renovated and set up to provide services for vulnerable women since 2023.

Our History

A gap in support provision, together with the need for a no-wrong-door approach and face-to-face support for women on the Southern Downs was identified in the early 2020s.

Under the  guidance of
Protea Place, a day refuge / women's support centre was established, reflecting the valued Protea Place model and program. In August 2023, Protea Place Warwick officially opened its doors becoming a light and beacon of home for our region. The team from Protea Place (CEO Amanda Dalton) worked tirelessly in managing the project, diligently employing and training staff and implemententing operating frameworks for the Warwick project.

A local team of passionate community members was tasked to raise the funds to operate the centre for the first year, under the guidance of Protea Place. We were thrilled to gain the support of
Small Steps 4 Hannah, local businesses, community groups, individuals and the Warwick Uniting Church. The Warwick Uniting Church generously ensured we have the fit-for-purpose premises we use today together with the extremely generous donations from various businesses who provided the fit-out.

The pilot program wound up in July 2024.  The centre was closed for a short period of time and re-opened as Southern Downs Women's Support Centre under the care of the Warwick Uniting Church, where women in need within the Southern Downs could still access essential support.

In 2025, we rebranded our location as WillowTree 37 Women’s Support Centre. This name was inspired by the strength and resilience of the willow tree which also symbolises growth, renewal and hope. It is a sanctuary where women can find tools to rebuild their lives.

While our name has changed, we have evolved over time, growing roots in the Southern Downs community. Thanks to the dedication and support of our community WillowTree 37 Women’s Support Centre continues to thrive.
